Lovely year-round accommodations for families & groups

How We Review

First, we only mention places we've visited and tried out personally.

Everyone's tastes differ, of course, but we've eaten in restaurants from the 5 star Stone Barns to random food trucks, and we know what good is.

If something looks good but you have questions, give us a call and we'll try to advise you.

Damariscotta/Newcastle | Bristol/Pemaquid/Round Pond | Rockland/Camden

NOTE: Popular, so make a reservation during the summer months.  Known for its local brews and fabulous oysters. Great pub food!

River Bottom Raw Bar
Raw bar, lobster rolls, wine/beer, and outdoor seating — open most of the year
68 Main Street, Damariscotta * 207-682-0129

Round Top Ice Cream
Homemade ice cream
Open Mother’s Day until October 15

One of Will's faves — They make it right on site. Stop by and take out a gallon or pick up a cone and enjoy their deck overlooking the field rolling down to the Damariscotta River. Three other words — Heath Bar Crunch!

The Cupboard Café
Fabulous baked goods, and a café for breakfast and lunch — Open year-round
137 Huddle Road • 207-677-3911 •
NOTE: The Café is closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  It is only open for breakfast on Sundays and only serves lunch on Thursdays.  If unsure about their hours, please call them.  This is a family business, aka “relaxed”.

The Harbor Room
Pub food, and seafood — Open year-round, lunch and dinner.
2477 Bristol Road (Route 130) • 207-677-0178 •
NOTE: casual fun dining, with outdoor tables, live music in the summer, and a bar devoted to sports with 4 tv’s going. Closed a few days/week in the deep winter. Call to confirm they’re open during those months.

Shaw's Fish & Lobster Wharf
seafood, overlooking the harbor — open during the summer season, and into October (call first)
129 State Route 32 • 207-677-2200
NOTE: location for the Kevin Costner movie “Message In a Bottle”, Indoor and outdoor seating; a perfect view of the harbor, often with lobstermen/women unloading their catch on the dock.  The ferry to Monhegan leaves from this dock as well, so there is lots of bustle and local atmosphere to appreciate!

Hanley’s Market
pizza! Plus a gas station and convenience store
open year-round
Route 130, 5 miles south of the Barn Loft • 207-563-1388
NOTE: Pizza from a gas station?  Strange, but true. And it’s good!  This is take-out only. You will not find “exotic” toppings such as broccoli. Think pepperoni, sausage, cheese, mushrooms, onion.  Like that.  They close at 7 and REALLY want you to order by 6 or earlier.
The Sea Gull Cafe
breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with an ocean view
open in the summer season, closed on Wednesday
Located in the Pemaquid Lighthouse Park
3119 Bristol Road, New Harbor, Maine • 207-677-2374 •

Home Kitchen Café

breakfast and lunch served all day. Families will be happy here.
open year-round
650 Main Street, Rockland • 207-596-2449 •
NOTE: Great sandwiches, homemade breads, and other lunch fair. They do not accept reservations and can often be crowded 'round lunch time, so plan ahead.

open spring, summer, fall
2 South Main Street, Rockland • 207-596-0770 •
NOTE: We have not visited as yet, but the word on Primo is very positive. Enormously popular, so make a reservation well in advance.

Red's Eats
lobster rolls, especially, but they also have seafood, burgers, and chicken
open mid-April to mid-October, outdoor seating
41 Water Street, Wiscassett • 207-882-6128 •
NOTE:  CASH ONLY. The lines are long – because the food is worth it!  The lobster rolls are famous for the sheer volume of lobster meat in each roll. We also recommend their crab cakes and great fries.
            Find them on FaceBook.

Ship’s Chow Hall
sturdy breakfast, local folks, delicious homemade breads
open year-round
277 Bath Road, Wiscassett • 207-882-5530
NOTE: Don’t let the no-fuss exterior fool you.  The restaurant is clean, the staff welcoming, and the food is delish. We always enjoy eating here and they make us feel like one of the locals.
            Find them on FaceBook.

Philly cheesesteaks are a fave and a great selection of their own beers (very popular with parts of our family!)

Johnny Rocketp’s

1 Freeport Village, Suite 300, Freeport • 207-865-6070 • <>
NOTE: The restaurant is across the street from LLBean’s, in the center of a walk-able shopping plaza.  Very popular, so bring your patience.
